Gold foil is one thing that can entirely change your packaging game. What matters is how cleverly you use it. A little hint here and there and it will make your packaging glow. Covering the whole surface, it can tip the other way. We tend to steer clients toward the first approach unless the brand specifically wants that full-metallic look, which does have its place for certain gift or luxury lines.

Base material is SBS board, 300 to 400 GSM, or rigid chipboard for heavier, higher-end boxes where the gold foil needs a sturdier surface to sit against. The foil itself is heat-stamped onto the board using a metal die, so any fine detail in the logo or pattern needs to be checked at the dieline stage — very thin lines don't always transfer cleanly.

Printing underneath the foil is full CMYK or Pantone, and we usually pair the gold with a matte or soft-touch base lamination, since the contrast between a matte surface and the metallic foil tends to make the gold stand out more than it would against a gloss finish. Embossing can also be combined with the foil for a raised, dimensional effect on logos.
